AMSTERDAM – November 2024
The principal photography was recently completed for the new eight-part drama series ‘Peace and Joy’ about the ins and outs of an allotment complex of the same name.

The series revolves around urban Emma who, after the death of her husband Thomas, discovers that he has registered for the Peace and Joy allotment complex. To give her grief a place to live, she decides to get a garden. It soon becomes apparent that the complex is anything but peaceful and joyful. Before she knows it, Emma is included in the colorful community of gardeners and drawn into a real power struggle over the height of the hedges, garden bingo and snail policy. The drama series will be shown on The Dutch broadcaster MAX on NPO 1 in the autumn of 2025.

Cast

The leading roles are played by Annet Malherbe, Jaap Spijkers, Nazanin Taheri, Rein Hofman, Frans van Deursen and Arjan Ederveen. The script of the series was written by Tamara Bos.

Director Tim Oliehoek about ‘Peace and Joy’: “I had a lot of fun directing this series because of the recognizable and witty situations on the allotment. At the same time, it is also a beautiful story about loss and grief. It is an honor to be able to adapt a book by Hendrik Groen again; and even more so because the screenplays were written by the wonderful Tamara Bos, with whom I also had the opportunity to make ‘The Amazing Wiplala’ ten years ago. As a director I am madly in love with Annet Malherbe and I am sure that I will not be the only one when the result can be seen by the whole of the Netherlands.”

‘Peace and Joy’ is a co-production of The Dutch broadcaster MAX and Lemming Film (Tom van Blommestein) and is based on the book ‘Rust en Vreugd’ by Hendrik Groen.
